The arrests followed a coordinated cross-border investigation involving SAPS, Mozambican law enforcement, SANParks, the Wildlife Justice Commission and Mozambique’s Serviço Nacional de Investigação Criminal (SERNIC). The breakthrough came after the recovery of the couple’s stolen Ford Ranger in Chókwè, Mozambique, on 26 May 2026. Investigators tracked the vehicle, leading to the arrest of one suspect in Chókwè on 1 June and a second in Xai-Xai on 2 June. The suspects face charges of murder and hijacking, with further charges possible as the investigation continues. South Africa has begun the formal extradition process to bring the suspects back to stand trial.
