SA Woman Fights Off Attempted Uber Kidnapping in Hyde Park

Sarah Scott, a South African woman visiting Johannesburg from Tanzania, narrowly escaped an attempted kidnapping outside her friend’s Hyde Park home. Mistaking a suspicious vehicle for her Uber, she was confronted by a man who tried to force her inside, declaring, “You’re coming with us tonight, lady.” Fighting back with fierce resistance and loud screams, Scott managed to break free, causing her attackers to flee.

The incident, captured on security footage, raised concerns about ride-hailing safety, as Scott’s real Uber driver was unaware of the chaos outside. Uber South Africa pledged an investigation, while police confirmed an attempted kidnapping case had been opened. However, critical security footage had yet to be retrieved, prompting questions about law enforcement’s response.

Scott’s ordeal occurred just days before South African media personality Anele Mdoda reported being threatened by an Uber driver, highlighting growing concerns over passenger safety. Now, Scott is speaking out, urging authorities and Uber to take action to prevent similar attacks.
