05 Dec Western Cape Precincts Lead South Africa’s Serious Crime Rankings
South Africa’s latest crime statistics for Q1 and Q2 of the 2025–2026 financial year show a clear concentration of serious crime in major metropolitan areas, with the Western Cape dominating the national rankings.
Cape Town Central police station recorded the highest number of community-reported serious crimes in both quarters, with 2,605 incidents in Q1 and 2,512 in Q2, confirming its position as the country’s most affected precinct. Mfuleni, Mitchells Plain, and Delft also ranked consistently within the top 10, driven by persistent gang activity and high-density urban conditions.
Other provinces featured significantly. Park Road in the Free State rose sharply to third place in Q2 (1,897 incidents), while Durban Central (KZN) and Honeydew (Gauteng) remained among the top five highest-reporting stations.
Overall, the data from April to September 2025 reinforces that the Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng remain at the centre of South Africa’s most serious crime challenges. Targeted, precinct-level interventions will be essential as government and law-enforcement agencies work to address these entrenched hotspots.
